Job OverviewThe Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services seeks a highly motivated, hardworking, and competent Dental Assistant to serve individuals with developmental disabilities in a community‑based Mobile Dental Program. The role is part of an interdisciplinary team, assisting with clinical treatment, treatment planning, oral health education, and program coordination across multiple community settings.
Responsibilities- Perform clinical treatment within the scope of practice for a mobile dental program for individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Take and review radiographs, determine need for repeat films, and adhere to OSHA and HIPAA regulations.
- Perform sterilization, stock, and inventory of dental equipment.
- Schedule appointments and maintain accurate clinical records and data collection.
- Provide oral health education and preventive care programs to patients, families, and the community.
- Advocate for oral health and preventive healthcare needs of patients.
- Respond to patient questions, concerns, and complaints; complete documentation in clinical records.
- Collaborate with the Dental Team Manager and Director for the Office of Integrated Health Support Network for program plans and management.
- Travel to routine overnight travel and mobile unit sites.
- Experience performing administrative duties for a medical/dental program.
- Knowledge of OSHA and HIPAA regulations.
- Basic computer skills – Microsoft Office and dental office electronic software.
- Flexible, able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good planning and analytical decision‑making skills.
- Prioritize workload and schedule resident appointments.
- Work effectively with adults with special needs in a calm, professional manner.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Work within scope of practice and allowable activities of a Dental Assistant without on‑site supervision.
- CPR – BLS certification
- X‑ray certification
- ACLS certification or willingness to obtain certification for rescue interventions.
- Dental Assistant certification credential from the Dental Assisting National Board, Inc. or willingness to obtain.
- Experience utilizing dental practice software.
- Experience driving large vehicles such as a Winnebago or willingness to learn.
- Knowledge of developmental disabilities and leadership principles and practices.
- Experience in dental assisting and/or dental office management as it pertains to quality assurance, inventory control of patient records, and rescue systems.
