Overview

Position Title: Child Care Teacher
Location: Richmond, VA (Children's Pavilion Lab)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Pay Rate: $38k - $45k/yr

Are you passionate about early childhood education and making a positive impact on young learners? We are looking for an enthusiastic Child Care Teacher to join our team and help create a nurturing and inspiring learning environment for children from 6 weeks to 6 years old. In this role, you will utilize the Reggio Emilia approach to foster cognitive, social, emotional, and motor development, while creating engaging and supportive learning experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement creative lesson plans that support children's developmental milestones in cognitive, social, and motor skills.

  • Create a safe, secure, and enriching environment that encourages self-esteem, independence, and positive growth.

  • Document children's progress and communicate regularly with parents regarding their child’s development.

  • Lead and supervise teacher aides and volunteers, ensuring proper classroom management and safety.

  • Follow and adhere to all licensing and accreditation standards for child care programs.

  • Build positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues to foster a collaborative and supportive atmosphere.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant classroom environment in line with health and safety guidelines.

  • Develop and implement age-appropriate goals that foster self-concept, independence, and skill development.

  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.

  • Ensure effective infection control practices are followed, ensuring a healthy and safe space for children and staff.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support program objectives.

Qualifications
  • Education: Two-year degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Psychology, or related field.

  • Experience: At least 2 years of hands-on experience working with children aged 6 weeks to 6 years.

  • Knowledge: Minimum of 40 hours of coursework in Early Childhood Education or related fields (such as Child Psychology or Children’s Literature) or equivalent experience.

  • Skills: Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and communicate clearly (both verbally and in writing).

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to engage in physical activities with children, including bending, climbing, and lifting.

  • Work Environment: Comfortable working in a noisy, high-energy environment with frequent interactions with children and parents.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with children aged 6 weeks to 2 years.

  • Familiarity with the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education.

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education.

  • Certification: Child Development Associate (CDA) Certificate.

Working Environment
  • Fast-paced, dynamic classroom setting with frequent interactions with children, parents, and staff.

  • The role requires active supervision both indoors and outdoors, ensuring safety and engaging with children in a hands-on manner.

  • Regular physical activity, such as bending, climbing, and lifting, is required.
