Position Purpose

The Director, National Protein Procurement is a strategic supply chain and procurement leader responsible for the sourcing, negotiation, and management of national land-based protein categories (beef, poultry, pork). This role ensures cost optimization, supply continuity, quality assurance, and risk mitigation while aligning procurement strategy with organizational financial and operational goals. The Director will lead supplier relationships at a national level, monitor commodity markets, manage contracts, and collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Finance, Operations, Quality Assurance, and Executive Leadership.

Functional Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute national protein sourcing strategies aligned with company growth and profitability objectives.
  • Lead national purchasing programs, including negotiation of product costs, payment terms, marketing programs, and sales support initiatives.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert and lead beef buyer for designated OpCos, including execution of raw material position buys.
  • Analyze commodity markets, futures trends, and supply forecasts to guide pricing and purchasing decisions.
  • Develop pricing rationale and earned income strategies within assigned protein categories.
  • Build short- and long-term buying strategies to mitigate volatility and ensure supply continuity.
  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with national and regional suppliers.
  • Negotiate contracts, service levels, performance guarantees, and risk-mitigation terms.
  • Partner with Finance on pricing models, forecasting, and margin optimization initiatives.
  • Develop, analyze, and present reports and briefings to executive leadership and internal stakeholders.
  • Establish procurement best practices, SOPs, and compliance standards across categories.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration and special projects as directed by the Regional President.

Qualifications Required Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, Agriculture, or related field
Work Experience
  • 10+ Years - Progressive procurement experience, with significant focus on beef buying
Required Qualifications
  • Deep understanding of protein commodity markets and supply chain dynamics.
  • Experience managing national or multi-regional supplier networks.
  • Strong negotiation, contract management, and analytical expertise.
  • Proficiency in ERP and procurement systems.
  • Ability to operate effectively in high-volume, fast-paced environments.
Preferred qualifications Preferred Education
  • Master's Degree/MBA
  • 11+ Years - Progressive procurement experience, with significant focus on beef buying. Food service or related industry experience.
