Human Resources Assistant

Title:

Northern VA Community College, Division NV280‑VP Administration.

Location:

Fairfax County, 059.

Work Schedule

Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am – 3:00 pm;
Part‑time, up to 29 hours per week.

Job Description

The Human Resources Assistant will provide direct administrative and clerical support to the Faculty Compensation and Credentials Team. Duties center on routine, transactional review, processing, and tracking, as well as information gathering and compilation related to faculty catalog update, reassigned time, teaching requests, additional & supplemental pay processing, multi‑year appointments, workload worksheets, transcript collection, and record‑keeping.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned and to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Knowledge
  • Commonwealth, VCCS, and College human resources policies and procedures.
  • Principles and procedures for providing customer service, including assessment of customer needs and meeting quality standards and evaluation of satisfaction.
  • Administrative procedures and systems, including accurate record management and confidentiality.
Skills
  • Communication: comprehension skills to understand and interpret written policies and procedures; effective written and oral communication.
  • Active listening skills: give full attention, understand others’ views, and ask appropriate questions.
Abilities
  • Communicate information and ideas clearly.
  • Recognize potential issues and communicate them appropriately.
  • Analyze and recommend changes to existing procedures and processes.
  • Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships.

Minimum Work Requirements / Qualifications
  • Experience and/or training in Human Resources.
  • Beginning/Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Additional Considerations
  • Prior experience in an HR office or as an HR assistant or professional.
  • Demonstrated interest in human resources.
  • Experience with records collection, retention, and destruction.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience with Image Now and Microsoft Access.
