The Town of Richmond is soliciting applications for the full-time position of Town Clerk. The Town Clerk works under the administrative direction of the Town Administrator and is responsible for carrying out the duties outlined in the Town Charter, Code of Ordinances, and the Rhode Island General Laws. This position has primary responsibility for the daily operations of the Town Clerk’s Office and provides direct support to the Town Council.

The Town Clerk is responsible for the day‑to‑day functioning of the Town Clerk’s Office, addressing the needs of the Town Council, attending all Town Council meetings, certifying official actions, and maintaining permanent records of Town Council proceedings.
Essential Functions- Supervise and participate in the recording, maintenance, and preservation of official documents and public records
- Issue licenses and permits as required
- Supervise assigned staff
- Attend evening meetings as required
- Interact with the public in person and by telephone
- Organize and support Town Council activities, including:
- Maintaining permanent records of Council proceedings
- Recording all budget workshops and public hearings
- Administering financial referendum procedures
- Serve as Clerk of the Probate Court and the Board of Canvassers
- Perform additional duties as directed by the Town Charter, Code of Ordinances, Town Council, and Town Administrator
- Extensive knowledge of general office operations and Town Clerk functions
- Proficiency in operating office equipment, including computers and related software
- Strong organizational, communication, and record‑keeping skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town employees, Council members, department heads, elected officials, and the general public
- High school diploma required
- Prior experience as a Town Clerk or in a clerical position within a Town Clerk’s Office
- Valid Rhode Island driver’s license required
- Additional education and relevant training will be considered
Salary Range: $75,000 – $82,000, commensurate with experience
