The part-time Storage Processing Assistant is a position in the department of Collection, Analysis & Investment (CAI) at James Branch Cabell Library. The library is currently seeking to fill 1 hourly position for seasonal employment during the spring semester of 2026. This position will work at the Cabell Library located on the Monroe Park Campus and will report to the Physical Inventory Manager;
the successful candidate may need to travel to the MCV Campus as necessary.
- Assist in creating access to library materials in storage by scanning item barcodes.
- Assist in the workflow of Shelf Reading inventory to prepare for offsite storage shifting.
- Utilize spreadsheet and circulating software to interpret item description data and pull items as needed for processing.
- Identify and interpret holdings descriptions of library inventory.
- Identify damaged and problem items.
- Shelf read the collection and maintain shelf availability for incoming items.
- Organizing the office space and maintaining a clean and sanitized environment.
- Aid in all storage related matters including processing materials, pulling items, taking inventory, and assisting in physical maintenance of the collection
- Experience interpreting data in spreadsheet software.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Special emphasis on accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
- Ability to print neatly and clearly.
- Ability to handle rare and fragile materials with care.
- Proficiency in word processing software, ability to learn new software with training.
- Self motivated.
- Ability to carefully follow written and oral instructions and to communicate clearly and concisely in person and in writing.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. Lifting and moving boxes onto carts is a major component of this job.

Shifts are very flexible within time frames of Monday thru Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, so long as 15 hours can be performed in a work week. Opportunities to deviate from the scheduled hours once shifts are assigned will need supervision approval.

PREFERRED
:
Experience working in an academic setting and in a library environment is preferred. Undergraduate degree preferred but not required.
