Job Summary

The Training Specialist II performs routine training work designed to ensure employees are effectively trained in the core and specialty competencies required for their position. Work involves planning, designing, organizing, conducting, and evaluating educational and training programs. The trainer may exercise creativity in selecting procedures and methods to make training interactive and engaging.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attend work regularly; may work specific shift schedules or rotating schedules as needed.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct training classes for new hires, refresher training, and continuing education.
  • Evaluate employee competencies and skills per policy or course requirements.
  • Act as a substitute trainer for team members when absent to ensure continuous delivery of training.
  • Promote training quality and effectiveness; customize standardized training to relevance of facility’s environment.
  • Maintain accurate training records and attendance logs; submit to appropriate team members.
  • Assist in development of curriculum materials, including multimedia presentations.
  • Demonstrate safety and infection control practices; maintain equipment per guidelines.
  • Assist managers in identifying training needs; develop training responses to improve delivery.
  • Conduct post-orientation (on‑job) training assessments and complete documentation.
  • Maintain necessary certifications to teach assigned classes (e.g., CPR, Ukeru, Safe Use of Restraints).
  • Serve as a Master Trainer and subject matter expert on training curriculum.
  • Participate in facility meetings, providing training perspectives, quality improvement recommendations, and statistics.
  • Conduct needs assessments and program assessments to determine training sufficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including disaster response or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation, which may require alternate shift patterns.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of working with persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of training procedures, techniques, and adult education principles.
  • Skill in delivering effective instruction to large groups and one‑to‑one situations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to teach and demonstrate skills such as CPR, Ukeru, Safe Use of Restraints (SUR), and lifting.
  • Ability to operate Windows programs (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to operate basic office and audio/visual equipment.
  • Ability to work within a team environment and independently.
  • Ability to demonstrate good judgment and serve as a model for company values.
  • Ability to work an alternate schedule as needed.
  • Ability to support approximately 55 pounds for lifting training.
  • Ability to evaluate, develop, and revise training programs.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements, or Certifications
  • Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date.
  • Within six months of hire and thereafter, certification as a CPR instructor per American Heart Association.
Initial Screening Criteria
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university is preferred.
