- Interprets and analyzes regulatory guidelines and develops and implements policy for the civilian aspects of the Army Substance Abuse Program (ASAP).
- Develops and conducts training for supervisory and non-supervisory personnel to acquaint them with the scope and procedures of the EAP and the Test Designated Position (TDP) program.
- Establishes working relationship and networks with all community directorates and organizations to facilitate prevention/education program goals.
- Point of contact for civilians seeking Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services for substance abuse and other mental health issues.
Conditions of employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- IAW AR 600-85 incumbent must sign condition of employment to gain certified EAP professional status within three years of assuming any EAP duties.
- Incumbent who fails to obtain certification within the allowed time period or fail to maintain certification may be subject to administrative actions and removed from their position.
- The position allows incumbent 2 years to obtain their Prevention Coordinators Certification.
- Is required to obtain and maintain a military driver’s license to operate a sedan or van.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance for duration of employment

Basic Requirement for Employee Assistance Program / Prevention Coordinator (EAP/PC) :
A. Degree:
Bachelor’s degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Combination of
Education and Experience:
A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
OR
C.
Experience:
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience
:
One year of specialized experience which includes managing programs related to substance abuse or other mental health related issues and experience conducting training on substance abuse prevention. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education:
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
OR
Combination of
Education and Experience:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
