Job SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Electrical Controls Engineer to support our Richmond, Indiana manufacturing facility. This role will play a key part in ensuring operational reliability, safety, and continuous improvement across electrical and control systems. The position involves a balanced mix of hands‑on troubleshooting (firefighting) and project‑based engineering, supporting both day‑to‑day plant operations and long‑term improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Perform power, electrical, and control systems engineering for plant operations and capital projects
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and controls‑related operational issues
- Lead or participate in root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives to prevent recurring issues
- Provide on‑call support to plant operations for electrical and controls systems
- Prepare, review, and approve technical electrical specifications for equipment, processes, and projects
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on electrical systems, process control, water systems, and compressed air systems
- Provide backup support to other Electrical Engineers as required
- Assist with review and implementation of corporate electrical standards and specifications
- Track, prioritize, and resolve issues in coordination with cross‑functional teams
- Support manufacturing operations and electrical safety initiatives
- Maintain clear communication with management and project stakeholders regarding project status, risks, and changes
- Strong hands‑on experience with Allen‑Bradley PLCs
- Knowledge of Device Net and Control Net industrial networks
- Experience with industrial control networks and networked control systems
- General understanding of DCS / SCADA systems (Ignition, Wonderware preferred)
- Ability to support and improve control systems in a discrete manufacturing environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
- Minimum 3 years of experience in control systems or a discrete manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated electrical and controls engineering capability
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings
- Solid understanding of Allen‑Bradley PLC and HMI programming
- Experience with enterprise and control network communications
- Knowledge of DCS/SCADA platforms
- Working knowledge of NFPA 70E electrical safety standards, including arc flash and shock hazards
- Proven ability to manage and support multiple projects simultaneously (3–4 projects)
- Demonstrated success managing projects in the $50K–$200K range
- Experience driving continuous improvement (CI) initiatives
- Process control experience, particularly in utilities such as water and compressed air systems
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to identify and implement practical solutions
- Effective communication skills across engineering, maintenance, and operations teams
