Electrical Division
Since the early 1990s, Shimmick has been self-performing electrical scopes for infrastructure projects. In 2025 the Electrical Division rebranded to Axia Electric, a subsidiary to Shimmick Construction. Axia offers electrical, instrumentation, and process controls expertise for water and wastewater treatment; dams and locks; mass transit and rail; alternative energy; power generation and transmission; and commercial building projects. Our ability to self-perform this specialty offers additional value and enables us to better control cost and schedule for projects with major electrical and process mechanical scopes.

Axia Electric, headquartered in Riverside, California, focuses on large public owners in several states, across water resources, water treatment, transportation and transit markets. Over the past decade, the division has grown tremendously, securing major projects, including the $350 million
North City Pure Water Facility in San Diego and the $235 million
EVMWD Regional Water Reclamation Facility Expansion Project in Lake Elsinore, CA.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Responsible for client relations, project development, resource management and supervision of construction activities
- Safety, Quality, Schedule, Budget and Change Management
- Responsible for the overall management administration to project and assists in establishing project specific objectives and policies.
- Provides technical direction and guidance to subordinate managers, enforces company and project policies, maintains close client interface, and ensures all facets of the project are constructed in accordance with design, budget and schedule through subordinate managers and supervisors.
- Position has significant profit/loss responsibility for assigned construction project(s).
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field + 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10+ years' experience involving heavy civil or industrial electrical projects.
- Experience in heavy civil construction projects related to Water/Wastewater Treatment, Mass Transit, or Power generation projects.
- Experience with engineering calculations & studies.
- Understanding of electrical power system equipment/components such as Switchgears, transformers, panel boards, generators, UPS, etc
- Ability to understand P&’s, Control Schematics, Electrical single-line drawings, and system (I&C, Fire Alarm, HVAC Control, Security) drawings.
- Must be physically able to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk-downs which may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, using fall protection and other personal protective equipment (PPE), walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, and maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces.
- Experience in construction and technical inspection of electrical design in areas such as installation and testing of electrical systems, lighting systems, high voltage equipment, grounding, and cable pulling activities.
- Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H). Demonstrated commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
- Must be computer-literate in word processing, CAD, spreadsheets, and database applications.
