What To Expect
Join Tesla in designing and building robust, beautiful, and data‑centric automated machines. As a Manufacturing Test & Engineering Technician, you will work closely with engineers to develop, build, validate, and deploy custom test equipment for batteries and power electronics components used in Tesla vehicles and energy products. This team specifically develops and builds custom, high‑power, automated testing equipment for our production lines around the world.
WhatYou'll Do
- Perform electro‑mechanical assembly tasks, including electrical and control panel wiring, mechanical frame and fixture assembly, and bench‑level test setup and validation.
- Build equipment from complex manufacturing documentation, including drawings, schematics, and written or verbal instructions.
- Assist with mechanical and electrical troubleshooting during build, validation, and deployment phases.
- Participate in early‑phase equipment conceptual development and prototyping.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining strong organization and attention to detail.
- Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams including engineering, manufacturing, and operations.
- Support procurement, inventory management, material handling, and package pickup.
- Support deployment, installation, and bring‑up of test equipment at Tesla facilities and contract manufacturers (CMs).
- Over 4 years of experience in building control panels and/or manufacturing equipment.
- Expertise in mechanical systems, production machinery, industrial sensors, and automation equipment.
- Skilled in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
- Proficient in using test equipment like digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and variable DC power supplies.
- Experienced with pneumatic and fluid systems, as well as high‑voltage AC and DC systems.
- Competent with basic shop tools (drill press, band saw, hand tools) and soldering/crimping wires of various gauges.
- Strong skills in cable management and high‑density wire routing.
- Capable of lifting 20–40 lbs. daily while maintaining a safe working environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook) and willing to travel domestically and internationally.
- Knowledge of UL 508A and NFPA 79 standards, along with prior experience in equipment deployment at production facilities, is a plus.
