System Administrator – IBM iSeries / AS400
Duration: 6–12 month contract (start ASAP)
Work Model: Hybrid – 4 days per week in office
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
We are seeking an experienced System Administrator – IBM iSeries / AS400 to support and maintain enterprise IBM i environments. In this role, you will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, and performance of IBM i systems while ensuring high availability and operational stability. You will work closely with infrastructure teams, vendors, and stakeholders to manage system upgrades, patching, automation tools, and security while supporting ongoing operational needs.
This is a fast‑paced environment where you will contribute to maintaining critical systems and implementing technology enhancements.
Key Responsibilities- Lead system enhancement, upgrade, and patching initiatives within the IBM i environment
- Coordinate with hosting partners for installation of cumulative PTFs and system upgrade packages
- Configure and maintain Robot job scheduling and production promotion processes
- Maintain and upgrade third‑party vendor software running on IBM i systems
- Manage and monitor IBM i security configurations in alignment with security policies
- Perform system performance tuning and troubleshooting
- Ensure compliance with IT policies, procedures, and operational standards
- Provide after‑hours support when required for critical system or business issues
- 5–10 years of experience supporting IBM i / AS400 systems as a System Administrator or System Engineer
- Strong experience with IBM i v7.3 or later
, including: - Applying PTFs
- Experience with Robot Suite tools (Schedule, Console, Alert, Network, etc.)
- Experience configuring and supporting MIMIX
- Experience managing third‑party software upgrades in IBM i environments
- Experience with Patrick Townsend security tools is considered an asset
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
, or equivalent experience - Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
- Strong problem‑solving, organization, and prioritization skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
