Food Service Worker; Operations

Overview

Food Services Worker with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) to join the Food Productions team at Minoru Residence. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and able to work both independently and in a team setting, with a strong work ethic and commitment to a safe and respectful environment for staff, patients, residents, families, and visitors.

The salary range for this position is CAD $24.34/Hr. to CAD $24.34/Hr.

• Perform a variety of duties according to Food Safe protocols and quality and safety standards, including:
• portioning and serving meals
• washing and peeling vegetables and fruit
• preparing items such as tea, coffee and toast
• washing dishes and utensils
• portioning desserts and assembling sandwiches and salads
• preparing and portioning diet items in accordance with nutritional plans
• measuring and combining food and beverage ingredients by methods such as grinding, blending, slicing, dicing and/or puree
• Check patient/resident meals/trays to ensure dietary accuracy.
• Strip wagons/trays, wash dishes and pots, clean food wagons, kitchen equipment, fridges and storage areas and wipe down tables and counter areas; sweep and damp mop floors and remove garbage.
• Perform related clerical duties.
• May operate a cash register and related equipment, receive payments and provide change for items purchased.
• Answer customer queries.

• Grade 10 plus one year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Food Safe Certificate Level 1.

• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to deal with others effectively.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
• Ability to organize work.
• Ability to operate related equipment.

The hours of work, including days off and work area, may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Check.

As per Ministry of Health policy, health care workers in publicly-funded facilities are required to report past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records allows offering of missing vaccines and appropriate actions during exposure or outbreaks. New hires will be asked to provide this information during onboarding.
