Field Engineer

Overview

At Aecon, a Canadian leader in infrastructure development, we are poised to expand our project team for the John Hart Dam Seismic Upgrade on Vancouver Island. The role, based in Campbell River, BC, is crucial to delivering safe and reliable power to the Vancouver Island community. This position reports directly to the Project Manager.

• Meet daily with project crews to review production schedules, confirm availability of materials and equipment, and maintain project momentum within budget.
• Collect, coordinate, and analyze shop drawings, design specifications, material requirements, and project data to ensure quality and contract compliance.
• Provide technical input for work plans and scheduling; identify risk elements that could negatively affect budget or schedule.
• Evaluate daily production, schedule, and budget projections to track performance and document activities using company‑approved methods.
• Notify team members and manager of significant schedule changes and recommend solutions.
• Remit accurate project quantity input and controls with project cost coding to ensure financial reporting accuracy; coordinate with finance and accounting on time, materials, equipment, and subcontractor needs.
• Review project specifications for quality control at start, during, and after work; initiate and manage certificates, inspections, and documentation.
• Plan field layout with construction crews and engineering leaders; initiate necessary permits before work begins.
• Coordinate subcontractor work methods, schedules, and crews as needed.
• Reconcile job close‑out checklist with owner representative and field crews at project end.
• Perform other duties as directed by management.

• Post‑secondary education in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
• 3–5 years of experience as a Field Engineer or Project Coordinator, preferably in heavy civil construction.
• Knowledge of construction equipment, techniques, drawings, specifications, building materials, and applicable standards.
• Proficiency with construction industry software (e.g., Primavera Scheduling, AutoCAD, SAP).
• Excellent computer skills, including MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written and oral.
• Flexibility to work in both field and office settings.
• Valid BC driver’s license.

Expected pay range: $70,000–$85,000
