SRCE-26/27, Expression of Interest - Early Hire (Mi'kmaw Lang. Term Teacher)

The Strait Regional Centre for Education is currently seeking expressions of interest from both qualified teachers and those who will be qualified before September 1, 2026. These teachers must meet the requirements for Nova Scotia Teaching Certification and possess a valid NS teaching license prior to the start of work in the 2026/2027 school year. Those selected as Early Hires will be offered a minimum of one year, in a fixed, 100% term contract, commencing on August 1, 2026 through to July 31, 2027, with salary and benefits as outlined in the Nova Scotia Provincial Teachers’ Agreement.

Applications from permanent or probationary contract teachers with the Strait Regional Centre for Education will not be considered for this vacancy.

As part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) was established on April 1, 2018, to deliver the public school program focusing on supporting student learning, achievement, well-being and overall success. In , the SRCE operates 20 schools with approximately 5,948 students. Located in the northeastern part of Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education’s jurisdiction encompasses the counties of Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness and Richmond, an area of approximately 11,000 square kilometres with a population of 53,742 (Census 2021).

Effective Dates: 08/01/2026 to 07/31/2027

Those selected as Early Hires will be offered a minimum of one year, in a fixed, 100% term contract, commencing on August 1, 2026 through to July 31, 2027, with salary and benefits as outlined in the Nova Scotia Provincial Teachers’ Agreement. Various locations.

• Methodology courses, experience, or practicum teaching in the subject area(s) at the appropriate level for the competition;
• Excellent classroom and student management skills;
• Valid Nova Scotia teaching certificate or will obtain prior to September 1, 2026
• Knowledge and experience in the application of technologies used to enhance instruction and learning;
• Knowledge and/or experience in implementing inclusive teaching and assessment strategies;
• High level of proficiency in Mi'kmaq language;
• Experience or Training in teaching & speaking Mi'kmaq language.

Your application must include at least three (3) work-related references, one must be your most recent supervisor. All candidates short listed for interviews will have references checked prior to being interviewed.
