Position Summary

We are looking for an Estimator to join our team. Our Estimators are involved in researching, sourcing, negotiating, and obtaining the best prices and quotes from suppliers and subcontractors. They are responsible for estimating a variety of commercial and light industrial projects with a direct contribution to cost management and budgeting for various high‑level projects.

Responsibilities
  • Review and develop discipline and multi‑discipline material and quantity takeoffs
  • Evaluate and develop construction rates, subcontract cost estimates, and proposals
  • Perform productivity analyses of cost estimates, including comparisons of scope, quantities, and cost data between projects
  • Review designs and specifications for cost‑effectiveness, and provide recommendations for alternatives where applicable
  • Research, source, negotiate, and obtain the best prices and quotes from suppliers and subcontractors
  • Supply necessary sub‑trades and suppliers with required drawings and data
  • Field construction‑related questions from sub‑trades and suppliers
  • Assist in completing preliminary (high‑level) construction schedules
  • Work closely with the Operations and Development teams to prepare, identify, and understand scopes of work and prepare project documentation
  • Develop and maintain sub‑contractor and suppliers’ databases
Qualifications
  • Post‑secondary education in engineering, construction estimating, building technology, quantity surveying, or other related courses
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in construction and cost estimating
  • Experience completing multi‑discipline takeoffs and estimates for a construction company; preference given to candidates with General Contractor experience
  • Understanding of building construction from concept to completion
  • Understanding of a construction worksite and sequencing considered an asset
  • Ability to document and organize complex streams of information efficiently and accurately
  • Ability to clearly communicate estimating concepts to various individuals in the organization
  • Demonstrated organizational and communication skills (written, oral, interpersonal)
  • Ability to lead by example and set the standard of professionalism
  • Proficiency with computers (Microsoft Office, Timberline, MS Project, Insite) and on‑screen takeoffs
  • High attention to detail
  • Strong problem‑solving, organization, task management, and planning skills
