Nature & Scope
Reporting to the VP, Child Care Operations, this role is responsible for leading the development and implementation of inclusive practices across YMCA BC Child Care programs, ensuring that children with diverse abilities and support needs can access and thrive in high-quality, equity-focused environments.
Key responsibilities include providing expert guidance to staff, leadership teams, families, and community partners; delivering training and workshops; and building capacity among managers and operational teams. The position oversees the creation and monitoring of inclusion frameworks, policies, and individualized care plans, while fostering a culture of inclusion aligned with best practices.
Additionally, this role serves as a key advocate for inclusive child care, collaborating with provincial bodies and sector partners to influence policy, improve funding models, and strengthen supports for children with additional needs. The position also has two direct reports located in different parts of the region, requiring strong leadership and coordination skills to ensure consistency and excellence across diverse geographic areas.
Major Responsibilities- in this position, you will:
Provide strategic direction and operational oversight for inclusion across 140+ YMCA BC Child Care programs, ensuring equitable access and alignment with YMCA standards and licensing regulations.Respond to staff concerns regarding behavioral or developmental challenges by conducting observations, assessing environments, and recommending strategies to foster inclusion, including staff training and resource allocation.Design and implement YMCA BC Child Care Inclusion Support Policy and Program by identifying gaps, researching best practices, and developing standardized tools, guidelines, and processes to ensure consistency and compliance.Lead responses to critical incidents involving children with complex needs, balancing safety, family communication, and staff capacity while providing short- and long-term recommendations.Develop and deliver inclusion-focused training and workshops for 900+ childcare staff, including managers, supervisors, and frontline educators, to strengthen knowledge and skills across all levels.Oversee onboarding and care planning for children with additional support needs, ensuring creation, implementation, and ongoing review of individualized care plans aligned with best practices.Ensure continuity of inclusion supports during seasonal break programs (winter, spring, summer) through coordination of internal and external resources.Build and maintain strong partnerships with external agencies such as Supported Child Development (SCD) and community organizations to support shared care planning, referrals, and advocacy for inclusive childcare.Audit and update internal policies, procedures, and tools to strengthen inclusion frameworks and ensure alignment with current best practices.Qualification-you bring:
Completion of a post-secondary degree or diploma in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Child and Youth Care, or a related discipline (required).Minimum of 3 years in a leadership, coaching, or consultative role supporting children with diverse needs.At least 7 years of progressive experience in inclusive childcare or educational settings.Proven expertise in inclusive practices, individualized care planning, and collaboration with external…
