Position: Seasonal Laborer - Streets (Public Works)

Job Overview

This position involves manual work in the performance of cleaning and custodial tasks for the City Hall. Work involves cleaning and minor maintenance work performed in accordance with established routines with specific instructions provided on non-routine tasks. Work is subject to inspection in progress and upon completion. Normal hours of work are 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with occasional schedule adjustments to accommodate special cleaning projects.

Supervision of Community Service Workers and keeping up with time worked for monthly report.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Sweeps, vacuums, mops and polishes floors using hand tools and power equipment. Dusts furniture.
  • Maintains inventory of cleaning products, tools, etc., and coordinates order and purchasing of items with supervisor.
  • Washes walls, windows, and woodwork.
  • Operates and monitors the operation of mechanical heating and air conditioning equipment, performing minor maintenance, and notifying supervisor of malfunctions or unusual operating conditions.
  • Assists with minor equipment repairs and building renovations.
  • Cleans restrooms and replenishes supplies.
  • Performs minor building maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs, replacing small broken windows, etc.
  • Operates a light truck or car to obtain supplies, deliver mail, store records and equipment, etc.
  • Sets up chairs and rearranges furniture in preparation for meetings or other special events to be held.
  • Mows grass using power equipment. Cultivates flower beds, collects trash, shovels snow, and maintains building exterior in a clean orderly manner.
  • Takes inventory of all custodial equipment to make sure that none is missing and to assure that each person checks out equipment when needed.
  • Locks and unlocks doors in accordance with building hours.
  • Responsible for supervision of Community Service Workers.
  • Maintains appropriate paperwork for Community Service workers.
Qualifications

Requires six (6) months work experience. Experience in the use and care of custodial equipment and janitorial cleaning methods is preferred. Must have a valid New Mexico drivers license. Must be in good physical condition (job requires some heavy lifting). Position requires safety toe footwear.
