In D4 End States (D4ES), the Waste Technical Specialist will be responsible to provide input to address characterizing, packaging, transporting, and disposing of waste stream to be generated in support of deactivation, decontamination, dismantlement, and demolition (D4) activities. The primary duty of this position is to be a knowledgeable Waste Characterization Specialist and apply appropriate regulations and standards to implement strategies to compliantly characterize facilities and waste sites to support generation and final disposition of waste streams in the form of discrete waste items/equipment, soil/vegetation, and demolition debris, as applicable.
- Maintaining compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, directives, and other binding requirements that affect environmental aspects.
- Performing all work safely and in compliance with environmental obligations using the core functions and core elements of the Integrated Safety Management System/Environmental Management System (ISMS/EMS).
- Participating in work planning, hazard identification and control, work performance within the controls including feedback and continuous improvement and stop work responsibility.
- Ensuring compliance with applicable standards including regulatory requirements and DOE Order 435.1, "Radioactive Waste Management".
- Assisting with waste characterization, using process knowledge or sampling and analysis, to support waste determination and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
- Performing radiological/chemical characterization evaluations/calculations and documenting in reports to quantify radioactive/chemical material contamination in and among facility items/debris and structures.
- Supporting sampling and analytical methods determinations devised to fill data gaps and characterize various waste streams.
- Grade 16 - Bachelor's degree in an engineering or scientific discipline with 2 or more years of relevant experience.
- Grade 17 - Bachelor's degree in an engineering or scientific discipline with 4 or more years of relevant experience.
- The higher posted level has greater scope, complexity, authority, impact. The level offered to the selected candidate will be based on the needs of the company and the candidate's education, training, and/or experience.
- Experience with MS Office software.
- Understanding of regulatory and safety requirements associated with the nuclear field.
- Ability to wear a respirator.
- Proven communication prowess (both written and oral).
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability and willingness to work with diverse staff members and work teams.
- Experience with radiological and/or chemical characterization, sampling, and inventory development.
- Experience with environmental sampling software applications.
In accordance with the CPCCo salary determination process, CPCCo takes into consideration the level of assigned job duties and responsibilities, and the candidate's education, training, and/or experience relative to internal peers and the external labor market. CPCCo will not solicit salary history for candidates.
- Grade 16: $78,450 - $125,250
- Grade 17: $86,200 - $137,650
In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for variable pay awards.
