Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.
Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.
Job SummaryYou will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project's mechanical aspects are met.
Part-Time Telework:
This position is a full-time role that offers part-time telework flexibility in the Richland, Washington project office. Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full time presence in the Richland, Washington project office, then may offer part-time telework flexibility. This position works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off. Telework designation may change in the future at the discretion of the company or project.
Responsibilities
- Manage discipline work process execution and assure technical adequacy in accordance with company, contract, and industry codes and standards.
- Provide direction to discipline work group consistent with project/program.
- Develop and revise Equipment Qualification Calculations; coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team.
- Support the PEM/PE/EGS on interfaces with DOE, DNFSB, WDOH, and Ecology.
- Complete assigned engineering tasks within budget/schedule and support identification and development of engineering trends and BCPs in discipline area.
- Support and implement the Nuclear Safety Quality Culture in day-to-day work activities.
Level I
Requires a bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant professional experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
Level II
Requires a bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant professional experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills- Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without Bechtel visa sponsorship now or in the future.
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
- Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge.)
- Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.
- Requires extensive technical knowledge and understanding of engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering methods and materials, applications of computer software to engineering problems to ensure the design is cost effective, in accordance with applicable safety, health, environmental regulations, customer requirements and engineering codes and standards.
- Nuclear experience in working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
- Excellent listening, oral and written communication, planning and organizational skills are essential.
- Must have or be capable of obtaining an EIT/PE within one year of hire.
