Project OverviewJoin us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.
Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.
Job SummaryOriginate and check structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, material requisitions. Reviews and coordinates technical documents with/from other engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction. Prepare technical reports related to specific design issues. Participate in technical meetings and perform intra-discipline coordination.
This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership. Please be advised that the telework designation of the position may be changed in the future at the discretion of the company or project.
MajorResponsibilities
- Participate in the design, development, modification, and evaluation of Civil/Structural components and processes.
- Compile, adjust, and correlate data that will develop professional work knowledge and abilities through the application of standard Civil/Structural engineering techniques, procedures and criteria utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs) and Design Control Check List (DCCL) and Design Review Notices (DRNs).
- Prepare or participate in preparation of construction drawings, project schedules, graphic presentations, civil drawings, steel and concrete calculations, and material requisitions.
- Check manufacturers' drawings and data for compliance with specification and design drawings.
- Design or participate in design for minor structures and portions of buildings.
- Provide input to and/or maintain technical logs and records.
- Coordinate work and collaborate with other engineering disciplines.
- Coordinate development and presentation of material when requested.
- Prepare or assist in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals.
- Assist in constructability reviews.
- University Hire with 1-2 years of experience or 5-6 years of relevant work experience.
- Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without Bechtel visa sponsorship now and in the future.
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
- Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge)
- Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns—including sensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries of risk, and other designated countries—are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.
