Project Overview

Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.

Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for development and implementation of programmatic and technical activities relating to spares program for the High-Level Waste Facility. It requires interface with groups across the project, supporting Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) and commissioning and operations. The engineer will develop program documents, procedures, specifications, and evaluations in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. The engineer will work with other groups such as engineering and construction automation, and engineering discipline groups in a team environment.

Work is performed under the direction of the Quality Engineering Manager. The ability to coordinate and facilitate technical discussions to resolve issues involving management as well as line personnel is required. The successful applicant will interact effectively with all levels of staff and take initiative to solve problems and develop practical solutions for implementation.

Part-Time Telework: This position is a full-time role that offers part-time telework flexibility in the Richland, Washington project office. Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full-time presence in the Richland project office, then may offer part-time telework flexibility. This position follows a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off. It is designated as part-time telework per our global policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project.

Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership. The telework designation may be changed in the future at the company or project discretion.

Major Responsibilities
  • Supporting the HLW Spares Program.
  • Resolve technical issues related to the discipline independently, including any required interface with other disciplines, groups, suppliers, and the customer.
  • Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team.
  • Develop, review, concur with and/or assess engineering technical documents.
  • Develop, review, concur with and/or assess management control procedures, technical procedures, or guides.
  • Development of new procedures and processes as required.
  • Facilitation and communication with the client and various stakeholders.
  • Support development of project cost and schedule estimates.
  • Independent recognition and development of necessary updates and improvements to Engineering processes.
  • Interface with subcontractors, vendors, and project support groups.
Education and Experience Requirements

Level I

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.

Level II

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
