Electrical Designer 3 - Government Services
Our Government Services Group, one of our five market-focused business units, has opportunities for engineering professionals in our design group. This group specializes in DOE facility design, both new and retrofit designs, as well as special purpose glove boxes and the associated controls and auxiliary systems, precision furnaces, hot cells, custom pressure vessels and other one-of-a-kind equipment. As a member of a multi-disciplined project team, this position will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your designer background and/or technical experience in Electrical and/or Controls Design.
Responsibilities- Utilize and expand drafting skills while working in a multi-disciplined team environment with other designers and/or engineers in the preparation of design drawings based on design input
- Apply computer-aided drafting skills in 2D and 3D design software environments
- Create drawings to scale showing the relation of proposed installations to existing facilities with exact specifications and dimensions
- Accompany and assist experienced engineers and designers on walk downs at client facilities to gather information for design projects
- Work on project teams with other Electrical designers and engineers involved in the design of new power distribution and lighting
- Prepare design media for the procurement and implementation of software, instrumentation, and control system platforms
- Develop career through peer learning via Sargent & Lundy’s systems of process and associated Communities of Practice
- Must be a U.S. Citizen;
Dual citizenship with a country other than the U.S. does not qualify. - Must be able to obtain US Government security clearance
- Associate's Degree in drafting or a high school diploma and 1 or more years drafting coursework or equivalent technical experience
- 8+ years of professional experience converting designs of engineers into technical drawings or equivalent education and experience
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Micro Station software
- Experience in the design of electrical/controls engineering systems in a project team environment with a focus on integrated, detailed system design for new facilities, or modifications or replacements for existing facilities
- Experience in preparation and review of design drawings
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented approach to work
- CAD certificate
- BIM modeling using Autodesk products (Revit) or equivalent
- Navisworks
- Experience with Project Wise or Smart Plant Foundation or similar document management applications
- Understanding of NFPA/NEC codes
- Experience with electrical system design including medium and low voltage distribution systems (transformers, generators, motors), communication systems, one-line diagrams, loop diagrams, cable and conduit diagrams
