Overview
JOB SUMMARY Under direct supervision, to perform a variety of video and audio production activities.
ResponsibilitiesAs a production crew member, the Video Production Aide may assume any of the following duties:
- Camera/Videotape Operator - operates a camera and videotape recorder;
- Audio Technician - sets up microphones and monitors audio levels during recording;
- Editor - serves as an online editor using both linear and non-linear edit systems;
- Tele Prompter Operator - operates the Tele Prompter;
- Floor Director - acts as a liaison between the director and "on-camera" talent;
- "On-Camera" Talent, script writing, field producing, directing and performs related duties.
In addition, the Video Production Aide transports equipment and performs off-line editing.
QualificationsEducation, Training, And/Or Experience
A typical way to obtain the requisite knowledge and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of this classification is as follows:
- Two years of college with major coursework in broadcasting, video communications, radio/television or related field. Completed coursework must include the operation of video production equipment;
- or
- One year of experience working with a variety of television production equipment in a television station or cable television production studio.
- Bilingual speaking skills (Spanish and English) desirable.
Requisite Knowledge And Skill Levels
Knowledge of cable television operations and the methods, techniques and equipment used in the design, creation and production of videotape programs.
Requisite Abilities
Ability to operate video camera/accessory equipment and video editing equipment.
Ability to work flexible work schedules on an "as needed basis", including some evenings and weekends; deal effectively with community groups, City officials, and fellow employees; and independently operate all portable and studio video equipment.
PHYSICAL TASKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Ability to lift, carry, load and unload video camera and accessory equipment; walk from one location to another while videotaping; focus a camera and adjust video colors; sit for extended periods of time while editing tapes; bend, stoop, reach to access and operate production equipment. Exposure to sun.
