HAPO is now accepting applications for an Accounting Clerk in Richland, WA. The Accounting Clerk is responsible for calculating, posting, verifying, vouching, and reconciling data to obtain and record financial information for use in maintaining the credit union’s accounting and statistical records. The successful candidate will be able to comprehend issues, draw conclusions, and make sound judgments in a timely and accurate manner while delivering superior service to both external vendors and internal staff.

Functions
  • Answer phones
  • Accept ownership of decisions, actions, and problems, demonstrating effective problem‑solving skills
  • Maintain confidentiality of all corporate, personnel and research matters
  • Maintain a working knowledge of third‑party accounting systems related to the job functions assigned, including processing and reporting
  • Prepare and post journal entries daily
  • Understand and efficiently process daily credit union balancing
  • Understand and perform various general ledger and bank reconciliations
Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge in basic math
  • Proficient use of MS Office:
    Word, Excel, and Teams
  • Proficient use of 10‑key calculators
  • Proficient use of standard office equipment
  • Ability to handle oneself in stressful situations
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize work
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate
  • Completed college entry‑level accounting classes (Principles of Accounting courses 251 and 252) with a grade of C or better
  • If the college course requirement is not met at the time of hire, it must be obtained within 18 months from hire date
  • Minimum of 2‑year accounting certificate or equivalent experience highly preferred

Location: On‑site, Richland, WA

Schedule: Must be able to work Monday‑Friday, 35‑40 hours a week between 8:30 am – 5:30 pm. Saturdays as needed for projects and year end. Opportunity for remote‑hybrid schedule based on performance after 90 days.

Starting Hourly Pay Range (DOE): $23.42 – $35.12. Typically, selected candidates are hired between the minimum and midpoint range, based on applicable experience and qualifications.
