Job SummaryThis position is responsible for the development of customer relations between Taylor Construction Equipment and end users by providing prompt and efficient service and aftermarket support. The Field Service Mechanic reports directly to the Service Supervisor, requisitions parts, submits reports, and keeps the supervisor informed of activities and schedule changes. Service persons are usually assigned to a territory but are called to assist in other areas as required.
The mechanic builds strong customer relationships through machine delivery, inspections, operator training, routine calls, prompt repairs or replacements, and accurate reporting to ensure correct billing and customer satisfaction.
- Consult with Service Supervisor to plan effective work and travel schedules, prioritizing customer needs.
- Diagnose malfunctions; repair, replace worn or defective parts, install new assemblies, and adjust devices and controls.
- Provide tools and parts and arrange for facilities to perform repair work, usually on customer premises.
- Inspects, operates, and tests machines upon initial delivery, at specified intervals, and after repair work to ensure proper functioning.
- Report detailed information to Service Supervisor for accurate billing.
- Continuously improve technical skills through vocational schools, training meetings, and technical literature.
- Maintain a neat professional appearance and keep the service truck clean and orderly.
- Act as a troubleshooter on recurring or unusual problems and coordinate with Engineering and Manufacturing to resolve issues.
- Train new servicemen or supervise a team on large units or joint repair jobs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to stoop, bend, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record.
- Must be DOT certifiable.
- Occasional overnight stays at out-of-town locations.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical material.
- Some vocational or formal schooling in hydraulics and diesel engine repair.
- Three years of on-the-job experience in diesel mechanics and hydraulics; schooling may substitute for experience.
- Welding tests:
Passing the tacker test is required; the AWSD
14 Welding Test is encouraged for future promotion.
