R&D Formulation Chemist - Nutraceuticals, Personal Care & Cosmetics

Job Description

Aloe Vera of America is currently seeking candidates for a Direct Hire R&D Formulation Chemist position at a cosmetic, personal care, food and nutraceutical / dietary supplement manufacturing and distribution company in the Dallas/Garland area.

The R&D Formulation Chemist is responsible for all aspects of product development for topical cosmetic and nutritional supplements and food products, including formulation development, sourcing raw materials, and overseeing the process from scale-up through launch. Working on multiple projects simultaneously, this individual is responsible for designing experiments to support product development in a team-based environment, and conducting hands-on laboratory and bench work, while participating in multi-functional teams throughout the product development cycle.

• Research new ingredients and new trends in cosmetics and in nutritional foods and beverages.
• Compile and maintain a ready database of reference research materials to use during development.
• Development of new products that may include: topical cosmetic, beverages and dietary supplements.
• Conduct lab work associated with new and existing product development.
• Write and review technical documents including formulation development protocols and reports, SOPs and other documents.
• Presents development updates to project teams.
• Participate in multi-disciplinary project teams through the complete product development cycle.
• Establish cosmetic and nutrition product specifications.
• Comply with company SOPs and policies.
• Review and assist with updating of SOPs.
• Fill in for absent team members within department once needed, fulfilling all duties of that position as much as possible.
• Do the deviation form bulk sample for production batch as needed.
• Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

• Able to read, write and speak in English.
• Familiarity with the use and function of common laboratory equipment.
• Familiarity with ISO and GLPs.
• Knowledge of 21
  
  CFR 110, 111, 210, 211,117.
• Good recording keeping skills.
• Good visual/observation skills.
• Ability to analyze needs and set priorities on multiple projects simultaneously within the product development cycle.
• Strong understanding of formulation development, product development cycle and cGMP.
• Familiar with lab instruments and equipment.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.

• Manual dexterity skills to use testing equipment perform tests, and for record keeping.
• Lift up to 20 lbs. when needed to put box of stability products on cart.
• Sit, bend, squat, kneel, turn, twist and stoop.
• Reach forward and overhead.
• Good eye/hand coordination.
• Stand/remain upright up to 4 hours at a time.

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related field required.
• Master's Degree preferred.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in topical product development with experience in cosmetics and food products required.
• Regulatory affairs experience, highly desirable.
• Topical formulation development experience for cosmetics in a manufacturing environment.
