Assistant Professor of Instruction or Practice
The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) at the University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for six full‑time, non‑tenure track faculty positions in our new First Year Program, launching in fall 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to become a founding faculty member in a transformative initiative designed to redefine undergraduate education in engineering and computer science.
The new ECS First Year Program will enhance student success and identity development in the engineering and computer science professions by cultivating problem‑solving through design, computational, and systems thinking with shared curricular and co‑curricular experiences and strategic engagement with departmental specializations. The program will serve over 1,500 students across eight different degree programs through three ECS courses during the first two semesters.
- Teach and develop courses in the First Year Program, including first‑year courses and, where appropriate, courses in the candidate’s home department specialization.
- Deliver 3–4 sections per semester and provide high‑quality, evidence‑based teaching that engages students from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Participate in coordinated curriculum development, assessment, and faculty learning communities within the First Year Program.
- Collaborate closely with the Director of the First Year Program and faculty in the home academic department.
- Minimum:
Master of Science in engineering, computer science, or a related discipline with professional and/or teaching experience. - Preferred:
Ph.D. or equivalent in engineering or computer science, or a related discipline. - Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment.
- Experience utilizing evidence‑based teaching practices to engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.

- Statement of teaching philosophy (maximum 1 page) describing conceptualizations of teaching and learning, assessment methods, and strategies for engaging students from diverse backgrounds.
- Engagement statement (maximum 1 page) describing engagement with disciplines, students, and faculty beyond the classroom.
- Teaching innovation statement (maximum 1 page) describing scholarship of teaching or engineering education research.

Priority will be given to completed applications received by February 15, 2026. Reviews will continue until the positions are filled or the search is closed on August 1, 2026.
