Theatre By The Sea 2026 Season (Wakefield, RI)
Position OverviewTheatre By The Sea (TBTS) is seeking a Lead Electrician for its 2026 summer season. The Lead Electrician oversees the safe, efficient installation, maintenance, and operation of lighting systems for a four-show musical season. This role works closely with the Lighting Designer, Production Manager, Technical Director, and Assistant Production Manager to plan and execute lighting installs, focus, changeovers, and run operations.
This is a hands‑on leadership position well‑suited to an experienced electrician who thrives in a collaborative summer stock environment and is comfortable balancing planning, supervision, and execution.
- Supervise all lighting load‑ins, installations, focuses, changeovers, and strikes
- Oversee daily lighting operations during technical rehearsals and performances
- Lead and support the electrics crew, including assigning tasks and setting daily priorities
- Serve as the primary deck electrician during performances
- Collaborate with the Production Manager and Technical Director to plan installs, schedule labor, and determine overhire needs
- Coordinate with the Lighting Designer to implement lighting plots, paperwork, and notes
- Maintain lighting systems, consoles, dimmers, and related equipment throughout the season
- Troubleshoot lighting issues during rehearsals and performances
- Ensure safe working practices and maintain a clean, organized electrics work environment
- Work collaboratively with the Assistant Lead Electrician, Programmer/Board Operator, and Production Management to ensure effective coverage and workflow throughout the season
- Communicate proactively regarding staffing needs, scheduling concerns, and technical challenges
This position includes participation in technical support for Theatre By The Sea's children's productions on an as‑needed basis. Specific dates and expectations will be communicated in advance and incorporated into the seasonal schedule.
Qualifications- Prior experience as a Lead Electrician, Assistant Lead Electrician, or equivalent role in regional or summer stock theatre
- Strong working knowledge of theatrical lighting systems, including hanging, circuiting, focusing, and basic troubleshooting
- Experience working with lighting plots, section drawings, and other technical paperwork
- Comfort collaborating across departments, particularly with scenic and audio teams, to support coordinated installs and schedules
- Ability to lead crews with clarity, calm, and respect in a fast‑paced environment
- Strong communication and problem‑solving skills
- Experience with lighting consoles and control systems commonly used in musical theatre is preferred
- Full-season commitment required
- Positions are scheduled for 40 hours per week
- Evening and weekend work required based on rehearsal, performance, and production schedules
- Overtime is limited, requires prior approval, and is typically confined to technical rehearsal and changeover weeks
- Competitive weekly rate, commensurate with experience
