Theatre By The Sea 2026 Season (Wakefield, RI)
Position OverviewTheatre By The Sea (TBTS) is seeking two (2) Electrician / Spotlight Operators for its 2026 summer season. These positions are core members of the electrics department, responsible for operating follow spots during performances while also supporting lighting prep, focus, maintenance, and general electrics work throughout the season.
Electrician / Spot Operators work under the supervision of the Lead Electrician and Assistant Lead Electrician and are part of a collaborative summer stock lighting team. This role is well suited to early-career electricians looking to gain professional experience in a fast-paced, supportive environment.
Primary Responsibilities- Serve as followspot operator for all assigned performances
- Participate in lighting load-ins, installations, focuses, changeovers, and strikes
- Assist with lighting system prep, maintenance, and organization
- Support daily lighting operations during technical rehearsals and performances
- Assist with troubleshooting lighting issues as appropriate to experience level
- Learn and apply safe working practices under the guidance of electrics leadership
- Collaborate with the electrics team to support efficient workflows and department needs
- Help maintain a clean, organized electrics work environment
This position includes participation in technical support for Theatre By The Sea's children's productions on an as-needed basis. Specific dates and expectations will be communicated in advance and incorporated into the seasonal schedule.
Qualifications- Interest in pursuing a career in theatrical lighting or technical theatre
- Some prior experience with lighting or technical theatre (academic, community, or professional) preferred
- Comfort operating follow spots or willingness to be trained
- Ability to take direction and work collaboratively as part of a team
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
- Willingness to learn and grow within a professional electrics department
- Full-season commitment required
- Positions are scheduled for 40 hours per week
- Evening and weekend work required based on rehearsal, performance, and production schedules
- Overtime is limited, requires prior approval, and is typically confined to technical rehearsal and changeover weeks
- Competitive weekly rate, commensurate with experience
