SUMMARY:

In collaboration with the classroom team, is responsible for assisting the Special Education Teacher with the implementation of effective academic and social-emotional programming for assigned students. • Assists in the formulation of social-emotional and behavioral programming consistent with students’ IEPs.
• Implements social-emotional and behavioral programming consistent with students’ IEPs.
• Assists students with activities of daily life such as toileting and other forms of self-care.
• Collects and manages data on social-emotional and behavioral functioning for assigned students.
• Prepares and presents verbal and/or written reports concerning social-emotional and behavioral functioning for assigned students.
• Assists in implementation of the academic and social-emotional curricula as directed by the classroom teacher and team leader.
• Provides academic support to students as directed by the classroom teacher.
• Prepares and submits required paperwork for the student record.
• Attends and participates in classroom team meetings and other student-related meetings as assigned.
• Attends and participates in supervisory sessions, staff meetings or other meetings as assigned.
• Observes all Bradley Schools policies, rules and regulations.
• Performs other duties as required, assigned, or directed.

• Baccalaureate Degree preferred with a major in education or related human service fields.
• Basic knowledge of data entry/management programs such as Excel; training will be provided upon hire for those without this background.
• Bradley Hospital Safety Care Certification.
• Prior experience working with children is helpful.
• Ability to work independently within department policies and practices.
• Refers specific complex problems to supervisor where clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required.
• Experience working in a psychiatric setting under stressful conditions associated with care of psychiatrically impaired, aggressive, and sometimes self-injurious students.
• Proficiency in de-escalation techniques taught by LSS to minimize need for physical intervention.
• Ability to maintain calm during crisis situations and make quick rational decisions to prioritize immediate student care needs.
• Physical capability to lift up to fifty pounds, reach, grasp, bend/squat/kneel, and escort students who may become combative for short distances.
