Position details
  • Public Safety Dispatch :
    Position available, 20-40 hours per week (may have to work nights, weekends and holidays). Union position affiliated with Council 94 and is classified as Labor Grade

    E. Step 1 starts at $23.05 per hour. Upon successful completion of a six-month probationary period, a Step and wage increase is possible. Benefits eligible.
Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age, have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, and be a United States citizen. This position requires successful completion of a thorough background check.
Responsibilities

Dispatchers are responsible for the handling of routine and emergency public assistance calls for police, fire, emergency medical services and in-station requests from members of the public.

Qualifications
  • Applicants must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and strong computer, data entry, and database management skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Applicants must possess a demonstrated ability to remain calm in stressful and emergency situations; multi-task and function well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment; and maintain a high degree of maturity, strict confidentiality, and exercise discretion in the handling of sensitive and confidential information.

    Applicants must also be able to establish and maintain successful working relationships with fellow employees, the public, and others in a courteous manner, and dealt tactfully, respectfully, and effectively with the public in both routine and crisis situations.
  • Proficiency with Windows computing environments, Microsoft Office, general data entry/word processing and typing.
