Position OverviewTheatre By The Sea (TBTS) is seeking an Assistant Production Manager (APM) for its 2026 summer season. The APM works closely with the Production Manager to support the planning, coordination, and execution of a four-show musical season. This role assists with scheduling, budget, and receipt tracking, logistics, staffing coordination, communication, and day-to-day production operations across all departments.
This position is ideal for an organized, proactive individual who thrives in a fast-paced summer stock environment and enjoys collaborating with technical, artistic, and administrative teams to keep productions running smoothly.
Primary Responsibilities- Support the Production Manager in coordinating schedules, production calendars, and daily operations across all departments
- Assist with tracking staffing needs, overhire requests, and crew coverage in collaboration with department heads
- Assist with overseeing the budget and tracking receipts
- Serve as a point of contact for production staff regarding schedules, logistics, and day-to-day questions
- Help coordinate load-ins, technical rehearsals, changeovers, and strikes
- Assist with production meetings, notes distribution, and follow‑up communication
- Support housing, transportation, and travel logistics for production staff as needed
- Help identify potential scheduling conflicts or workflow challenges and communicate them proactively
Maintain organized production paperwork, contact lists, and documentation throughout the season - Step in as on‑site support during tech rehearsals and performances as needed
- Prior experience in production management, assistant production management, stage management, or a related role in regional or summer stock theatre
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and shifting schedules calmly and effectively
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative working style
- Comfort working with production schedules, calendars, and shared documents
- Ability to take initiative while also working within established systems
- Familiarity with technical theatre workflows across scenic, lighting, audio, costumes, and stage management is a plus
- Valid driver’s license preferred
- Full‑season commitment required (including load out)
- Positions are scheduled for 40 hours per week
- Evening and weekend work required based on rehearsal, performance, and production schedules
- Overtime is limited, requires prior approval, and is typically confined to technical rehearsal and changeover weeks
