Theatre By The Sea (TBTS) is seeking a Props Supervisor / Runner for its 2026 summer season. The Props Supervisor / Runner oversees the organization, tracking, maintenance, and run of props for a four-show musical season with overlapping rehearsal and performance schedules.
Props are primarily designed, sourced, or built prior to arrival at the theatre. This role focuses on implementing and maintaining these packages on site, supporting rehearsals and performances, and ensuring props remain safe, functional, and performance-ready throughout the season. The Props Supervisor / Runner also serves as part of the run crew, operating props during performances.
This is a hands‑on leadership position ideal for a props professional who is organized, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast‑paced summer stock environment.
Primary Responsibilities- Receive, organize, track, and maintain all props for each production
- Prepare props for rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and performances
- Run props during performances as required
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs throughout each run
- Coordinate closely with Stage Management regarding presets, tracking, and notes
- Shop for consumables and replacement items following established purchasing procedures
- Assist with prop changeovers between productions
- Maintain clean and organized prop storage and work areas
- Collaborate with Production Management, Scenic, Wardrobe, Audio, and Stage Management teams to support production needs
This position includes participation in technical support for Theatre By The Sea's children's productions on an as‑needed basis. Specific dates and expectations will be communicated in advance and incorporated into the seasonal schedule.
Qualifications- Prior experience as a Props Supervisor or equivalent role in theatre preferred
- Experience running props during live performances
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair props as needed
- Strong communication skills and collaborative working style
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, overlapping production environment
Full‑season commitment required.
- Positions are scheduled for 40 hours per week
- Evening and weekend work required based on rehearsal, performance, and production schedules
- Overtime is limited, requires prior approval, and is typically confined to technical rehearsal and changeover weeks
Competitive weekly rate starting at $700, commensurate with experience. Housing and travel assistance may be available.
