Job Description

Day‑to‑day paraprofessionals report to the classroom teacher or principal. The role is instructional in nature and involves working with small groups or individual students. The substitute assists a teacher in carrying out a daily educational program, building effective relationships with children of all needs, and performing various instructional, classroom, and clerical duties under the direct supervision of a teacher or the school principal.

Requirements
  • Good character.
  • Current national BCI check.
  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma.
  • Completion of a teacher assistant pre‑employment training program approved by the RI Department of Education (RIDE). Exceptions for those hired before January 1 1999, those certified as a TA in another state, or those holding an associate’s or bachelor’s degree and completed coursework or training consistent with the program standards.
  • Meet one of the following:
    • Successfully pass the Para Pro Assessment.
    • Complete at least two years of study at a higher‑education institution.
    • Obtain an associate’s degree or higher.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.

South Kingstown School Department seeks applications from professional candidates. Submit a complete School Spring application; incomplete applications will not be considered.

Applicants who are selected will need to provide the following items in person:

  • W‑4
  • Federal BCI (current)
  • I‑9 (completed in person)
  • Transcript
  • Proof of meeting minimum paraprofessional requirements per RI Department of Education standards.
