Position OverviewTheatre By The Sea (TBTS) is seeking an Assistant Costume Shop Manager / Lead Stitcher for its 2026 summer season. This position supports the Costume Shop Manager in the daily operations of the costume shop while also functioning as a primary stitcher, contributing significant hands‑on sewing and alteration work throughout the season. The Assistant Costume Shop Manager works closely with the Costume Shop Manager, Costume Designers, Stage Management, and wardrobe staff to support fittings, alterations, technical rehearsals, and performances for a four‑show musical season.
This is a collaborative, hands‑on role well suited to a costumer who enjoys both sewing and organizational responsibility in a fast‑paced summer stock environment.
- Support the Costume Shop Manager with daily shop operations and workflow planning
- Serve as a primary stitcher, performing costume construction and alterations as needed
- Assist with organizing costume packages and preparing for fittings
- Help schedule and conduct fittings in coordination with Stage Management
- Support supervision and instruction of stitchers and fitters
- Track and assist with completion of costume notes during technical rehearsals and previews
- Assist with transport of costumes between the costume shop and theatre
- Help maintain costume inventory, shop organization, and supplies
- Assist with budget tracking, receipts, and returns as assigned
- Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient costume shop environment
- Prior experience in costume construction, alterations, or wardrobe in regional or summer stock theatre
- Strong sewing skills and garment fitting experience
- Experience working with a variety of sewing machines
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and take direction while also working independently
- Clear communication skills and a positive, team‑oriented attitude
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle preferred
- Full‑season commitment required
- Positions are scheduled for 40 hours per week
- Evening and weekend work required during technical rehearsals and production periods
- Overtime is limited, requires prior approval, and is typically confined to technical rehearsal periods
- Competitive weekly rate, commensurate with experience
