Theatre By The Sea 2026 Season (Wakefield, RI)
Position OverviewTheatre By The Sea (TBTS) is seeking a Costume Shop Manager for its 2026 summer season. The Costume Shop Manager oversees the day‑to‑day operations of the costume shop and manages the execution of costumes for a four‑show musical season. This hands‑on leadership role works closely with Costume Designers, Stage Management, Production Management, and wardrobe staff to coordinate fittings, alterations, technical rehearsals, and costume maintenance.
The Costume Shop Manager supervises stitchers and fitters and ensures that costumes are prepared, organized, and supported throughout the season.
- Read scripts and collaborate with Costume Designers and directors as needed.
- Organize costume packages and prepare for fittings.
- Schedule and conduct fittings in coordination with Stage Management.
- Perform and oversee costume alterations and construction as needed.
- Instruct and supervise stitchers and fitters.
- Coordinate the transport of costumes between the costume shop and theatre.
- Attend technical rehearsals and track costume notes from the creative team.
- Manage completion of costume notes during tech and previews.
- Make purchases for show and shop needs while adhering to the costume budget.
- Track receipts, returns, and expenses in coordination with Production Management.
- Oversee daily operations of the costume shop, including opening and closing procedures for the season.
- Maintain an organized, safe, and efficient costume shop environment.
- Prior experience as a Costume Shop Manager or equivalent role in regional or summer stock theatre.
- Strong sewing and alteration skills.
- Knowledge of garment fitting and construction.
- Experience working with a variety of sewing machines.
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to supervise and support a team in a collaborative environment.
- Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle preferred.
Full‑season commitment required. Positions are scheduled for 40 hours per week. Evening and weekend work required during technical rehearsals and production periods. Overtime is limited, requires prior approval, and is typically confined to technical rehearsal periods.
CompensationCompetitive weekly salary commensurate with experience. Housing and travel assistance may be available.
