General Purpose

The Area Supervisor is a member of Store Leadership responsible for a specific area of the store as well as the general operations and supervision of the store when acting as Manager on Duty. Duties include opening and closing the store, supervising associates, maintaining a friendly and clean shopping environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and executing company operational processes.

Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
  • Understand that safety is the number one priority and practice safe behaviors in all tasks.
  • Maintain awareness on the sales floor to create a safe shopping environment, correcting or reporting unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Secure the building, including entrance/exit control, EAS device checks, cash office security, armored carrier pick‑ups, and register area.
  • Remove clutter and keep egress clear to emergency exits.
  • Ensure customer safety through accident prevention, reporting, and emergency procedures.
  • Test all fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.
Customer Service
  • Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
  • Show courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times and recognize associates using company programs.
Personal and Store Brand
  • Represent and support the company brand at all times.
  • Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the dress code and enforce it for associates.
  • Keep all areas of the store clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.
  • Handle daily trash removal.
General Merchandising
  • Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet company standards through teaching, task assignment, and follow‑up.
  • Receive merchandise trucks when needed and process all merchandise with urgency.
  • Handle all non‑merchandise inbound deliveries.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms.
  • Assist in delivering and placing merchandise on the sales floor after processing.
  • Secure and process any back‑stock per company policy.
  • Manage merchandising of departments, including back‑stock and floor moves.
  • Reduce loss from damage and ensure monthly presentation guidelines are met.
Loss Prevention
  • Comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintain a strong floor presence.
  • Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions, safeguarding confidential, cash, and merchandise information.
  • Maintain the Public View Monitor system and conduct “Code 50” package inspections.
  • Execute best practices to maximize productivity by minimizing steps and touches.
Front End Supervision and Operations
  • Ensure associates meet company standards at the front end.
  • Maintain pace, energy, and presence to manage the line and expedite customer wait time.
  • Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other front‑end procedures.
  • Control associate break schedules for backups, lunches, and breaks.
  • Verify all equipment is functional and supplies are stocked.
  • Ensure go‑backs are expedited, scanned, security‑tagged, and ticketed.
  • Teach associates the “Scan and Bag” best practice.
  • Optimize salability of merchandise on the front end and in specialty racks.
Fitting Rooms
  • Maintain and clean fitting rooms.
  • Ensure all garment tags are audited and accounted for per policy.
  • Enforce go‑back compliance for all returned merchandise.
Administrative Duties (as Assigned by Store Manager)
  • Conduct cash pulls and bank deposits per policy.
  • Support front‑end control with refunds, associate purchases, and cash settlement procedures.
