As a cornerstone of our hotel’s leadership team, the Chief Engineer plays a pivotal role in upholding the operational integrity and guest experience of our 160-room limited-select hotel, just north of Boston. We are searching for an accomplished engineering professional who is not only enthusiastic about building maintenance but also understands the unique demands and standards of the hospitality industry. This role is essential to our commitment to excellence - ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, driving continuous improvement, and proactively managing projects that protect our assets and optimize energy efficiency.

The Chief Engineer’s expertise directly impacts guest satisfaction by guaranteeing a safe, welcoming environment and by facilitating operational efficiency that aligns with our brand’s reputation for quality and reliability. The ideal candidate will be an initiative-taking leader responsible for the upkeep, functionality, and safety of the entire hotel property. This role is critical to maintaining our ambitious standards of guest satisfaction by ensuring the physical plant is in excellent condition.

The Chief Engineer will manage a small team, oversee all maintenance activities, and implement strategies for cost control and energy efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Maintenance Operations:
Direct and oversee all aspects of the engineering department, including preventative maintenance, routine repairs, and emergency response for guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities.
  • Team Leadership:
Manage, train, and schedule a team of maintenance technicians. Foster a culture of teamwork, safety, and high performance to ensure all tasks are completed efficiently and to the highest standards.
  • Asset Management:
Maintain and protect the hotel's physical assets, including building structures, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. Implement and manage a comprehensive preventative maintenance program to extend the life of all equipment.
  • Safety and Compliance:
Ensure the property is in full compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including fire codes, building codes, and OSHA standards. Conduct regular safety inspections and drills.
  • Budget and Cost Control:
Develop and manage the annual maintenance budget. Monitor expenses, control utility consumption, and identify opportunities for cost savings and improved energy efficiency. Solicit and review bids for all capital projects and major repairs.
  • Guest Satisfaction:
Respond to guest and staff maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner. Proactively identify and resolve potential issues to minimize guest disruption and enhance the overall guest experience.
  • Vendor and Project Management:
Supervise and coordinate the work of outside contractors to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to hotel standards.
Qualifications
  • Experience:

A minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in hotel or building maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role. Experience in a select-service or limited-service hotel environment is highly preferred.
  • Technical Expertise:
Proven technical proficiency in HVAC, boilers, plumbing, electrical systems, and general mechanics. Certification in one or more of these trades (e.g., CPO, HVAC certification) is a significant asset.
  • Leadership

    Skills:

  • Regulatory Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of building codes, safety regulations (OSHA), and fire prevention standards.
  • Financial Acumen:
Experience with budget management, financial forecasting, and cost-control strategies within a maintenance department.
  • Communication:
