Senior Java Developer / SDET

Type: 6+ month contract
Compensation: $79.50 per hour
Work model:
Mainly remote with hybrid days in Reston, VA

ALTA IT seeks a hands‑on Senior Java Developer / SDET to join a cross‑functional, enterprise team. The role combines Java application development with test automation, requiring flexibility to support multiple projects, write production code, and own quality across the software lifecycle.

• Design, develop, test, and maintain Java‑based applications.
• Support Java 21 migration and ongoing platform enhancements.
• Build and maintain automated integration and UI tests using Karate, Selenium, and Cucumber.
• Contribute to both back‑end and front‑end development (Angular or React as needed).
• Work closely with architects, product owners, scrum masters, and stakeholders.
• Decompose functional and technical requirements and identify risks.
• Follow test‑first practices (TDD/BDD) and ensure high code quality.
• Participate in CI/CD pipelines and Dev Ops processes.

• 8+ years of hands‑on software development experience.
• Strong Java development experience with Spring (Core, Boot, MVC, Integration, Batch).
• Hands‑on experience with Angular or React.
• Strong automation experience with Karate, Selenium, and Cucumber.
• Experience working on Agile/Scrum teams.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and practices.
• Working knowledge of SQL and cloud‑based databases (e.g., Postgre
  
  SQL).
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.

• Full‑stack development experience.
• Experience with large‑scale or enterprise applications.
• Mentoring or technical leadership experience.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
