Lead Substation Physical Engineer
DescriptionWe are looking for a Lead Substation Physical Engineer to join our team. This role involves designing substation electrical projects for electric utilities at voltages from 12 kV to 500 kV, including digital‑logic design, AC/DC circuits, and substation physical drawings. Candidates will work closely with project teams and clients, ensuring quality control and compliance with project scope, schedule, and budget.
Hybrid / Remote OptionsHybrid in‑office schedule or remote options available. Candidates must be able to travel to Charlotte, NC client sites.

- Execute substation physical projects.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams and clients.
- Perform quality control checks on design projects.
- Read and design substation physical drawings: one‑line, three‑line, plan‑section, foundation, and grounding drawings.
- Create and check bill of materials for substation physical components.
- Attend site visits at customer locations.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field with 8+ years of substation physical design experience.
- Experience with grounding studies / lightning protection / lighting studies.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
- Collaborative team leader.
- Self‑starter capable of working independently with minimal direction.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficient computer competency.
- Willingness to travel to projects and/or client sites.
- Engineer Intern (EI) or EIT certification.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Working knowledge of protection and control design.
- Experience with bus calculation.
- Experience with WinIGS or CDEGS.
- Master’s degree in a related field.
