Al Fatih Academy (AFA) seeks a school counselor for the  school year
. AFAis a Muslim independent school serving preschool through Grade 8 with an anticipated enrollment of approximately 270 students in Reston, VA. AFA is dual‑accredited by Cognia & CISNA and is an accreditation candidate with the Virginia Association of Independent Schools.

The school counselor focuses on creating a safe, inclusive environment where students’ social, emotional, and mental health needs are nurtured, leading to improved academic performance and emotional well‑being. School counselors are required to approach their care from a traditional Islamic psychology and psychotherapy perspective.

Responsibilities include:

• Collaborate with administrative leaders, the wellness team, and classroom teachers in order to create and implement lessons and counseling events that integrate into the school curriculum.
• Plan and conduct classroom guidance lessons that integrate practices of Islamic spirituality within a tarbiyah framework that is rooted in Islamic belief ('Aqīdah') and jurisprudential practice (Fiqh).
• Provide one‑on‑one counseling sessions depending on specific student needs.
• Conduct small guided groups focused on relevant topics.
• Create and conduct parenting programs to educate and support parents.
• Conduct grade‑level AFA‑developed Family Life Education (FLE) lessons in elementary grades and gender‑specific FLE lessons in Middle School.

Ideal candidates should be licensed and have teaching experience, excellent oral and written communication skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to the mission of Al Fatih Academy.
