Job Description

Perform mechanical duties at Valley Medical Center under the Facilities Engineering department. The position reports to the Manager of Plant Engineering and involves full-time work Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Prerequisites
  • High School graduate or equivalent is required.
  • Washington State driver’s license, required.
  • HVAC Specialty Electricians Card and EPA refrigerant certificate (Universal) are required.
  • Sixteen (16) years of qualified experience as a Journeyman HVAC Mechanic in facility maintenance or construction is required.
  • Five (5) years of experience in the health‑care field is preferred.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of principles and theory of air conditioning, heating, and ventilating equipment, including components such as heat exchangers, electronic controls, thermostats, hermetic refrigeration units, pneumatic controls, steam systems, and medical gas/vacuum systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Working knowledge of the Uniform Mechanical Code.
  • Ability to follow instructions and specifications in manuals, and to learn increasingly complex operations and techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Professional manner and grooming.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, effective with a diverse population.
  • Personal mannerisms that exude energy, empathy, compassion, problem‑solving, and active listening.
Unique Physical/Mental Demands, Environment, and Working Conditions

The role requires rapid assessment and decision‑making based on sound judgment and problem‑solving skills. Physical requirements include adequate vision and hearing, the ability to lift up to 75 pounds waist‑high regularly and occasionally heavier items, standing, stooping, kneeling, and bending for extended periods. The position may involve working in overhead, stretched, cramped, or awkward positions, on ladders and scaffolds, and wearing respirators.

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all weather types; exposure to temperature fluctuations, dampness, water, mud, fumes, refrigerant burns, infections, chemicals, gases, bruises, cuts, electric shocks, dust, dirt, and skin and lung irritation may occur. Proper safety clothing and equipment must be used in hazardous locations. Regular and punctual attendance is a condition of employment.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Generic job functions as outlined in the Service Partner generic job description.
  • Install, maintain, and repair air conditioning, heating, and ventilating equipment and components.
  • Inspect, maintain, clean, repair, test, and adjust electronic and pneumatic controls.
  • Follow maintenance schedules, inspections, or work orders to perform maintenance services, diagnose system or equipment malfunctions, and repair as necessary.
  • Provide support to other systems with mechanical interfaces, coordinate with other trades for multi‑discipline repairs, and offer high‑level technical advice on system capabilities and limitations.
  • Perform the full range of tasks related to repair, overhaul, maintenance, servicing, and installation of diverse mechanical systems.
  • Plan and lay out work using sketches and specifications, determine required tools, and estimate necessary materials or parts (e.g., wiring, fittings, contacts, breakers).
  • Diagnose and locate malfunctions, disassemble, repair, replace, service, and adjust components as required.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
