Title: Registered Nurse
Job Overview: The staff RN is a licensed professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame. This individual provides safe, quality care to these patients utilizing the nursing process as the basis for clinical practice.
Department: Any patient care area.
Work Hours: Assigned tour of duty hours.
Reports To: Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager
- BSN preferred
- Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Washington
- Successful completion of a graduate nurse residency program orientation or six months' experience as a Registered Nurse
- AHA BLS for healthcare providers required
- BSN
- Two years' experience in clinical nursing/leadership in area of responsibility preferred

- Demonstrates leadership skills with the ability to lead and manage a team, utilize clinical judgment, clinical inquiry, innovation, and systems thinking
- Effective oral and written communication
- Adheres to Professional Appearance Policy
- Interpersonal skills that are community-centered, compassionate, and meet the needs of diverse and vulnerable populations
- Ability to communicate and work with patients across all ages
- Excellent customer service skills; caring environment
- Functions within ANA Standards and Nurse Practice Act
- Electronic documentation skills and ability to access information in electronic environment
- Self-directed in advancing professional practice through continuing education and research
- Safe patient handling per VMC guidelines; ability to lift up to 40 pounds; team lifting as needed
- Operate patient lifting equipment; stoop, bend, reach, crouch, squat; stand and walk for extended periods
- Full range of motion; corrected vision and hearing; color distinction
- Assess, guide, and direct workflow on the unit; determine when charge nurse assumes patient assignment
- Make staff assignments reflecting patient acuity and care needs
- Mentor staff, float, and agency personnel; integrate new staff into unit culture
- Serve as clinical resource; ensure safe use of patient care equipment
- Monitor nursing care; assess unit safety and regulatory standards; maintain documentation
- Provide excellent customer service; respond to patient and family concerns
- Report significant events and activate chain of command per policy
- Contribute to performance appraisals and staffing decisions based on clinical judgment
- Coordinate bed placement and clinical resource collaboration
- Clinical Partner – Registered Nurse; addendum includes unit-specific prerequisites (Emergency Department, PACU, Perioperative, etc.) and certifications required within specified time frames (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC, ENPC, NRP, etc.)
- Minimum of one year medical-surgical experience preferred for many roles; various specialty pathways listed with requirements
- Same general qualifications as listed above; leadership, communication, professional appearance, patient-centered care, and ANA/Nurse Practice Act alignment
