Overview
The City of Renton has an exciting opportunity for a skilled and strategic Asset Manager to join our Public Works team. If you are a strategic thinker with a passion for optimizing infrastructure and asset management, this Asset Manager position may be a great fit for you. In this role, you will lead and coordinate the City’s Public Works Asset Management Program, overseeing the integration of data, technology, and staff expertise to support efficient and effective operations across multiple divisions.
You will supervise and mentor a team, develop short- and long-term plans, monitor budgets, and collaborate with internal and external partners to achieve the City’s goals. - Manage the Asset Management program for the Public Works department in coordination with the Facilities, Maintenance Services, Municipal Airport, Transportation, and Utility Systems divisions within the department.
- Lead and direct GIS services for the Public Works Department to maintain current GIS services and implement new services while integrating asset management data into GIS and other data base systems.
- Utilize city plans and roadmaps to establish scopes, schedules, and budgets of implementation projects and activities; refine priorities and procedures as needed.
- Lead the interdisciplinary Asset Management Program team, consisting of managers and staff across the department, as well as lead individual project teams. Foster collaboration and coordination between members. Implement asset management best practices, projects, methodologies, and procedures.
- Use experience and knowledge with asset data collection, storage, and analysis methods including infrastructure data architecture to achieve optimal system performance analysis and reporting goals.
- Develop and implement systems and performance measures to track project schedules and deliverables, program implementation, budgets and expenditures, and overall progress.
- Use civil engineering principles, practices and methods for public works asset renewal and replacement for capital projects.
- Work in collaboration with other departments and the public works divisions to develop and implement their 6-year Capital Investment Programs.
- Assist with review of capital project development; identify and address issues and concerns that may pose technical, financial, scope, or schedule risks to projects from an asset management aspect. Assist with implementation of “triple bottom line” business case methodologies in capital project delivery.
- Assist with operations and maintenance (O&M) projects, asset management data and systems development and ongoing O&M activities to continue to build asset management practices and principles to increase the efficiency and optimize the work of each division.
- Select consultants, negotiate, and execute consultant agreements, monitor consultant progress and expenditures, review consultants’ work and deliverables to ensure it is compliant with project scope and specifications.
- Prepare technical reports and periodic progress updates on the Asset Management Program.
- Prepare and make presentations to Department Divisions, city Council, the public and other partners.
- Provide opportunities for professional development to staff.
- Evaluate employee performance; conduct consistent staff and 1:1 check in meetings with direct reports.
- Delegate, review and ensure timely completion of duties of assigned staff.
- Assist in the development and implementation of department goals that support the City’s Mission and Business Plan.
