TITLE:

Nuclear Medicine Technologist

JOB OVERVIEW:
Under the direction of the Director or Manager of Radiology Services, the Medical Director, and the nuclear medicine team, performs Nuclear Medicine exams, Stress Tests, and Spectral CT exams at a technical level requiring limited or no supervision. Performs a variety of procedures that requires independent judgement for the preparation, calibration, and administration of radiopharmaceuticals, as well as performing quality control, diagnostic and therapeutic imaging procedures.

Prerequisites:

Graduate of a program accredited by JCERT or the JRCNMT, or Registered with the NMTCB or with ARRT, or equivalent training, required.

Current Nuclear Medicine CNMT and/or ARRT(N) Certification, required.

Current WA State Radiologic Technologist Certification, required.

Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers, required.

1 year of working in Nuclear Medicine, preferred.

Radiology Technologist RT(R) Certification, preferred.

CT Technologist RT(CT) Certification Preferred or obtain Certification within 1 year of employment, required.

Unique Physical/Mental Demands, Environment And

Working Conditions:

Requires working as a member of a team, under the direction of the Radiology Manager or Director and the Medical Director to ensure efficient operation of the nuclear medicine department. Requires full range of body motion. Requires handling, lifting, and transferring patients and equipment, standing, sitting, walking swiftly, reaching overhead, pulling, and bending. Requires the ability to effectively communicate with other staff, physicians, and patients.

Requires working under changing conditions depending on the schedules of the department. Includes the potential for exposure to body fluids and other conditions common to hospitals. Requires transporting patients via wheelchair, stretcher, and bed throughout the facility. Requires skills in answering the phone. Requires knowledge in the use of information systems and acquiring/transferring imaging data electronically.

Essential Responsibilities And

Competencies:

Demonstrates proficiency in all nuclear medicine procedures, using initiative in special positioning needs of individual patients.

Practices good radiation safety procedure pertaining to the preparation, handling, administration, and disposal of radiopharmaceuticals. (ALARA)
