Job Description

The position description is a guide to the critical duties and essential functions of the job, not an all-inclusive list of responsibilities, qualifications, physical demands and work environment conditions. Responsibilities
  • JOB OVERVIEW:
    Responsible for a variety of housekeeping duties in and around the hospital. Assist where necessary to provide a clean and sanitary environment. All other duties as requested/required.
  • ROLE:

  • AREA OF ASSIGNMENT:
    As listed in the department master schedule and monthly work schedules.
  • RESPONSIBLE TO:
    Manager/Assistant Manager/Supervisor of Environmental Services.
  • Housekeeper duties include cleaning tasks, patient room cleaning and discharge cleaning, trash and linen handling, and daily maintenance of cleanliness across assigned areas, following Environmental Services procedures.
Prerequisites
  • 6 months of experience in commercial housekeeping (highly preferred).
  • Demonstrates understanding of written and verbal communications in English.
  • Leads must have 6 months experience in housekeeping at Valley Medical Center.
  • Successful completion of the Work Steps evaluation.
  • Working knowledge of computers (highly preferred).
Qualifications
  • Communicates effectively in English.
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills in a diverse population.
  • Able to work on assigned shift.
  • Able to work on weekends.
  • Works independently.
Unique Physical/Mental Demands, Environment, and Working Conditions
  • Ability to stand during the majority of the shift. Walking on hospital campus, approximately 5 hours or more depending on assignment.
  • Push/pull of trash and linen carts (up to 48 lbs).
  • Reaching, bending, stooping, overhead reaching, twisting; kneeling rarely required.
  • Lift up to 32 pounds with proper mechanics/equipment; exposure to cleaning solutions and PPE as required.
  • Exposure to heat, cold, fumes, chemicals, blood and body fluids with PPE as needed.
  • Transport of supplies and equipment within the facility; clean areas up to 10 feet above floor level.
  • Transports and handles waste and soiled linen according to procedures.

  • Definitions for lifting and repetitive motion are provided as guidelines (Seldom, Occasionally, Frequently, Continuously).
  • Physical activity levels cover lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, twisting, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, walking on uneven ground, and other movements as indicated.

    Clean and perform assigned tasks per department procedures; complete daily assignment reports; communicate cleaning needs and maintenance issues to the shift supervisor.
  • Respond to customer cleaning requests promptly.
  • Perform daily patient room cleaning and discharge cleaning per Environmental Services procedures.
  • Collect and transfer trash and soiled linen; empty waste receptacles and linen holders.
  • Clean and maintain carts; sweep, mop floors; operate floor care equipment as assigned.
  • Wash walls, ceilings, windows, sinks, cabinets, and plumbing fixtures; refill supplies at designated areas.
  • Monitor quality and report repair needs; complete special cleaning assignments as required.
  • Attend department in-service meetings or review posted minutes.
  • Follow policies and procedures; report any business practice concerns as directed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Lead Responsibilities (Housekeeper - Lead)
  • Ensure adequate staffing and service levels; manage workload and assist staff as needed.
  • Answer telephone and respond promptly.
Waste, Linen, and Projects
  • Collect and handle waste and soiled linen per procedures.
  • Vacuum, carpet/hard floor care, and room setup as required.
