The Physical Therapist Outpatient/Clinical Specialist provides comprehensive patient care in orthopedic, pre/post-surgical, neurological, and health/wellness service areas. The role evaluates, plans, implements, and delegates patient care plans and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, including functional status and needs assessment.
- Integrate information from all sources (patient interview, observation, RN, MD, and discipline-specific assessments) to determine a plan of care.
- Set specific goals and monitor progress; perform re-evaluations and documentation per standards.
- Provide patient education to improve functional skills and quality of life.
- Perform telehealth/virtual visits with appropriate documentation and coding standards.
- Delegate patients to assistants and exercise staff with clear communication and guidance.
- Collaborate with the full care team, altering treatment plans as needed and providing appropriate information to subsequent providers.
- Supervise Physical Therapy Assistants, Exercise Specialists, and Rehab Aide staff; provide mentorship and clinical instruction.
- Maintain all appropriate certifications, licenses, and professional ethics and conduct.
- Adhere to department policies, treatment protocols, and billing procedures; utilize CPT codes correctly.
- Current Washington State PT License or in-process license, including interim license.
- Current BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
- Professional appearance and effective interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks, set priorities, and work accurately and independently.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients of all ages, cultural backgrounds, and diversity contributors.
- Physical ability to lift, carry a minimum of 40 pounds, stand, sit, crouch, bend, and walk for extended periods.
Occasionally requires transfer of patients weighing up to or exceeding 200 lbs. with maximum assistance from wheelchair to table and back to chair. Must recognize own limitations with regards to load handling and seek assistance when demand exceeds individual physical abilities. Must lift, carry a minimum of 40 pounds. Requires standing, sitting, crouching, bending, and walking for extensive periods.
Leadership and MentorshipProvides direct supervision to staff; delegates patients appropriately; offers answers, feedback, and education for treatment techniques. Orients new staff, students, and volunteers. Participates in professional collaboration and continuous education.
