Job OverviewThe Stroke and Cardiac Program Coordinator is responsible for monitoring and coordinating the stroke and cardiac cath programs throughout the patient's care, from the Emergency Department through hospitalization, discharge, and follow‑up planning. The role ensures optimal care by providing clinical program support, administrative oversight, interdepartmental coordination, public education, and performance improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate hospital-wide stroke and cardiac care programs in alignment with Joint Commission and American Heart Association guidelines.
- Collaborate with Stroke Medical Director and Cath Lab Medical Director to ensure quality standards and certification readiness.
- Lead or co‑chair the Stroke and Cardiac quality committees.
- Prepare reports, agendas, and follow‑ups for stroke and cardiac program meetings.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of stroke and cardiac clinical guidelines and update internal protocols accordingly.
- Participate in regional and state‑wide stroke and cardiac advisory councils.
- Engage in data sharing, research opportunities, and benchmarking with peer institutions.
- Oversee data collection for stroke and cardiac registries (e.g., GWTG‑Stroke, COAP, NCDR).
- Ensure timely and accurate data abstraction and submission.
- Utilize registry data to generate reports for internal quality improvement and external benchmarking.
- Partner with billing and coding departments to ensure documentation supports clinical accuracy and reimbursement.
- Develop and manage quality improvement initiatives based on key performance indicators.
- Conduct chart reviews and root cause analyses for identified outliers or adverse events.
- Collaborate with departments to close performance gaps and implement evidence‑based practices.
- Support readiness for accreditation visits through continuous documentation and process audits.
- Educate clinical staff on stroke and cardiac care protocols, order sets, and pathway utilization.
- Participate in onboarding and ongoing education for ED, CCU, and telemetry unit staff.
- Assist in coordinating mock drills, stroke alerts, and code STEMI simulations.
- Perform rounds ensuring guideline‑adherent care across transitions.
- Provide feedback and follow‑up to staff regarding protocol adherence and documentation.
- Act as a liaison between departments to support coordinated care delivery.
- Organize and participate in community awareness events for stroke prevention and heart health.
- Develop and distribute patient education materials, newsletters, and public health information.
- Represent the hospital in community collaborations for disease prevention and health promotion.
- Serve as a member of:
Stroke Program Committee (Chair or Co‑Chair), Interventional Cardiac QI Committee, Code Blue Committee, Emergency Cardiac QI Committee, Stroke Radiology Conference. - Perform other duties as assigned to meet program needs.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Health Care related field, or MBBS (M.B.B.S.). Master’s degree preferred.
- Current Registered Nurse or Registered Pharmacist license in Washington State.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Emergency, Critical Care, or Cardiology/Neurology specialty areas. Experience in stroke/cardiac program coordination preferred.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACSL) certification (preferred).
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification (required).
- Familiarity with Get With The Guidelines (GWTG) Stroke and Cardiac Registry data requirements.
- Self‑directed with flexible hours.
- Demonstrates effectiveness in communication, organization, diplomacy, assertiveness, proactive problem‑solving.
- Proficient computer skills, knowledge of data registries and ICD coding.
- Teaching skills for clinical staff and community engagement.
- Membership in professional organization (e.g., AHA, ASA, AACN, AANN) desired.
Must be able to travel occasionally. Commitment to community education and prevention programs related to stroke and cardiac health.
