King County's Office of Emergency Management is looking for a Hazard Mitigation Program Coordinator to join our team. This position is responsible for working on projects and programs involving inter-agency, inter-jurisdictional and multi-disciplinary coordination in King County.
Be a key player in the planning and development for present and future services. Role involves daily interaction with senior-level management, elected officials, and multiple intergovernmental partners. Requires a self-starter who is interpersonally and politically savvy, can work on multiple projects, and is a great problem solver.
SCOPE OF JOB DUTIES - The successful candidates for this position, at a minimum, will demonstrate skill and ability to:
- Coordinate/manage the County/regional hazard mitigation program, including updates to the Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan (RHMP) and compliance with EMAP Standards.
- Coordinate/manage Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) grant programs, including but not limited to BRIC, HMGP, and FMA; provide guidance and assistance to County Departments and other jurisdiction partners during grant development, application, and implementation phases; track progress and resulting reduction of risk.
- Coordinate/manage partners for input to hazard mitigation program, RHMP updates, training needs, and related matters; serve as hazard mitigation and disaster risk reduction expert for County and region.
- Coordinate/manage planning for and support to incidents, including updating plans, policies, and procedures, coordinate/manage federal preparedness and other related grants with a focus on hazard mitigation, and similar topics.
- Coordinate/manage the preparedness cycle for complex incidents, including assessing risk, building and sustaining capabilities, evaluation, and revision based on lessons learned.
- Coordinate/manage partners for input to complex incident planning, including first responders, law enforcement, sheriff’s office, fire department, EMS, and emergency management, throughout the County/region and with other adjacent counties; serve as hazard mitigation subject matter expert for County and region.
- Participate in Emergency Operations Center (EOC) operational readiness activities including writing procedures and coordinating maintenance of equipment, training and exercises.
- Develop, plan and participate in facilitating multiple workshops for partners.
- Analyze and assist with developing recommendations for process improvement, reducing waste, and promoting value-added activities during day to day operations, and during Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activations.
- Have a background and knowledge of current emergency management principles and practices; OR any combination of education and experience that clearly demonstrates the skill and ability to perform the job duties;
- Can conduct and analyze capability, gap analysis, and preparing reports.
- Have a track record of developing and maintaining working relationships with a variety of constituents and individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Are flexible and can adapt as required, while working in a multi-faceted and sometimes ambiguous environment.
- Are comfortable and proficient with the use of office productivity tools in daily work (The County uses Microsoft Office, and other online collaboration tools).
